Opened to the public a few years ago, the library of the University of Warsaw, with its unusual roof-top garden, has become one of the symbols of Warsaw. From an ordinary depository of valuable works it itself became a valued work. Designed by the architect Marek Budzyński, it has excellently, naturally entered into not only the visual landscape, but into the spirit of the university as well. From its first days it has signified Warsaw's identity, in the positive emotional, architectonic, and social sense of the word. It has become, in the most perfect form, a contemporary garden of knowledge.
