The Stanisławowska Axis, one of the largest land management projects of 18th century Warsaw, was inspired by French urban ideas and became a permanent feature of the settlement of the south part of Warsaw.

The small axis visible on the photo served from the beginning of Ujazdowski Castle's existence as a natural landscape element directed towards the east, towards the Vistula. Thanks to this axis, a broad perspective opened out from the escarpment onto the terrains of the river area (with time a game park) and further onto a bend of the Vistula and the southern part of Kawcza Island. In the times of August II, ‘the Strong,' the Royal Canal was built along this axis.
