The approaches to Warsaw from the direction of Brwinów is the area of one of the several dozen large ancient iron-working settlements located just before the contemporary residential settlements. Unique in Europe, they give a different view of European history. Here, in the heart of barbarian' Europe, in an environment of simple farmers and animal raisers, iron of excellent quality was smelted in primitive furnaces on an enormous scale, and contributed to stopping the expansion of Rome two thousand years ago.
